About ageing

Children and adolescents don't think a lot about ageing. If we ask young people who is old, we get a very interesting reply that these are gray-headed people aged 50 plus, who does not hear, doesn't see ok,  is sick, forgetful ... However, the idea of aging is our own view on aging. Our cells in the body begin to age at birth and grow old until death. Therefore, when it comes to aging, we mean all of us who are getting older during the life and change with it. The most notable changes are physical, that we can all see.

Elderly persons older than 65 years are only one group of an aging population, which is still very active, vital, sociable. In their life, they experienced a lot of things. When they retire this is a very good chance for children and young people to exploit the potentials held by older people. They are full of knowledge, experience, wisdom, advice, ideas, life stories, and much more. All this can enrich your life. Knowing how a grandmother spent her youth without a phone, TV, computer, and when nowadays we can not imagine the day without these technologies.

How can we, children, grandchildren, enhance everyday life of elderly (grandma/grandpa, elderly neighbors, ... )?

  • they will be very happy, if we will take some time for them and call them on the phone and asked they how they are;

  • try to visit them regularly if we don't live together.

This means a lot to the elderly because loneliness is very high in this population and opposite of the expectations it is very difficult to tolerate it. If we visit them we would make them very happy, because due to age they stay at home several times and the opportunity to meet with other people is reduced.

With this, they know they are important for us and that we love and respect them.

Statistics predict that by 2050 every third person will be retired and one in ten people will be over the age of 80 years. This will affect all residents, regardless of age, because we will all have to adapt to the upcoming changes.

Maybe you already know that people in history lived fewer years than today. In the 19th century, they considered that the old people are between 30 and 50 years. Compared to today's time, we can say that they died very young, but the medicine and technology were not so developed, the latter is largely responsible for the increase in life expectancy.
